Trainings: California Senate Bill 978

California Senate Bill 978 states that begining January 1, 2020, the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training and all local law enforcement agencies shall post all current standards, policies, practices, operating procedures, and education and training materials that would otherwise be available to the public if a request was made pursuant to the California Public Records Act (Chapter 3.5 (commencing with Section 6250) of Division 7 of Title 1 of the Government Code).

Drone Program

The Hayward Police Department has adopted the use of small, remotely operated Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), also commonly referred to as drones, as an efficient and effective way of providing law enforcement critical information to respond to calls for service and emergency situations, or to conduct criminal investigations.

Critical Incidents and Community Briefings

The use of force by law enforcement personnel is a matter of critical concern, both to the public and to the law enforcement community. Officers are involved on a daily basis in numerous and varied interactions and, when warranted, may use reasonable force in carrying out their duties. Officers must have an understanding of, and true appreciation for, their authority and its limitations. This is especially true with respect to overcoming resistance while engaged in the performance of law enforcement duties.
