As an Adopt-a-Block volunteer you are able to "adopt" an area that you are committed to keeping litter free for a period of two years. By keeping Hayward litter free you are improving the appearance, property values, and attractiveness of our city. You will also be helping to reduce environmental pollution and prevent crime associated with an unkempt community.

Two years with the ability to renew.

After your clean ups someone from our Maintenance Service team will come out to an agreed upon location to pick up the litter you collected.

We do! We will provide gloves, vests, bags, and grabbers.

Absolutely! We encourage you to get your little ones and teens involved as long as they have proper adult supervision. There must be one adult for every five minors.

After you have successfully completed two clean ups the City of Hayward will put an adopt-a-block sign on your adopted area letting everyone know that your group is responsible for how fabulous the area looks. The sign can have any name or phrase (with in reason) that represents your group

No problem! The sign is completely optional.
