Disposal Days program for household debris disposal paused indefinitely

The Stack Extra

December 1, 2025

The City of Hayward’s Disposal Days program has been paused indefinitely ahead of the scheduled December event.

The Disposal Days program has allowed residents to dispose of up to five cubic yards of household items at the City transfer station on the second Saturday of every other month free of charge. This year, Disposal Days events took place in February, April, June, August and October. The planned December event has been canceled, and the program will remain on pause at least through the end of the fiscal year, June 2026.

The pause comes as the City works to close a multimillion-dollar budget deficit, and canceling these Saturday events for the rest of the fiscal year will save the City approximately $40,000 in overtime staffing costs.

Hayward residents may be eligible to request up to two bulk item pickups each year through Waste Management. More details on scheduling a pickup are available on the Waste Management website here.
