Volunteer service on any City commission provides an opportunity for residents to participate in the City’s decision-making process by advising the City Council and staff on a wide range of important topics.

The City of Hayward has opened its annual recruitment period for applicants to serve on five City commissions—with service on these City Council-appointed bodies now open to all residents. 

The application period for appointment to City commissions is now open until Friday, July 31, 2026—with vacancies on the Clean and Green, Community Services, Library, Personnel and Planning commissions.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for appointment to any commission, a person shall be a resident of the incorporated area of the City of Hayward.  And, pursuant to passage of Measure OO in November 2020, appointment to commissions is open to all Hayward residents, regardless of whether they are registered or eligible to be registered to vote.
