2025 Fall Classes

September 20, 2025, 11:00 a.m.- 1 p.m.: Fall Planting for a Colorful & Water-Wise Spring.
Location: Hayward Downtown Library, 888 C St, Room B
Description: Learn how to create your own vibrant, healthy, and water-wise garden with pops of colorful spring surprises. The class will provide a seed exchange for new plants and bulbs ideal for the autumn season!
 
October 25, 2025, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.: Fall Landscaping Ideas & Design.
Location: Hayward Downtown Library, 888 C St, Room C
Description: Fall is a great time to plant and design your new landscape! This class will teach you strategies and benefits on how you can create a beautiful, low water use and low maintenance landscape with native plants. Bring a small container to plant your own starter plant!
 
November 15, 2025, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.: Rain Barrels & Rain Gardens.
Location: Hayward Downtown Library, 888 C St, Room B
Description: Are you interested in having an eco-friendly garden? Join us as we learn how to capture and harvest rainwater and how to get started in installing your own rain barrel. We’ll explore how rain gardens can be used in your home to help conserve water and property flooding using native plants. Learn how you can save money using the rain barrel rebate program!
 
December 13, 2025, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.: Fall & Winter Edible Gardening.
Location: Hayward Downtown Library, 888 C St, Room B
Description: Learn how to plant a successful cool season garden by incorporating low water-use vegetables and herbs. In this class, you’ll learn how and when to sow seeds, transplant seedlings for the fall and winter seasons, and maintain your garden with water efficient techniques. Bring a small container to plant your own starter plant!

Lawn Conversion Rebate Program

Did you know that Hayward residents can receive up to $0.75 per square foot of lawn converted to drought-tolerant landscaping? Applicants must receive pre-approval in advance before beginning work.
