The City of Hayward's Fiscal Year 2026 Pavement Improvement Project (PIP) construction began in May 2026 and will wrap up with the repaving of A Street (from the San Lorenzo Creek bridge to Foothill Boulevard, and from Walnut Avenue to I-880 northbound ramps) and Hathaway Avenue (from A Street to the city limits).

Weather permitting, repaving will take place at night in two stretches: from Monday night, Oct. 19, through the morning of Saturday, Oct. 24, and from Monday night, Oct. 26, through the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Crews will adjust utility covers during daytime hours before and after repaving. Vehicle detection loops and new striping will be installed after repaving is complete.

The project contractor, Bay Cities Paving & Grading, Inc., will send notification letters and post no parking signs to affected residents and businesses 72-hours in advance of the work.

The project began in May 2026 and will deliver more than $10 million in street and curb repairs, resurfacing, striping, bike lane and crosswalk improvements, and other upgrades across more than 129 lane-miles of roadway. The project encompasses 123 street segments and is expected to be completed by the end of November.

Street segments included in the Fiscal Year 2026 Pavement Improvement Project have been selected based on City evaluation of current pavement conditions, input from the public and City Council, grouping of streets by neighborhood for cost and schedule efficiency, and available funding.

The City's annual Pavement Improvement Project is funded by Alameda County Measure BB sales tax revenue, gas tax revenue, state vehicle registration fees, street system improvement funds, and the California Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 (SB 1).
