Apply for and renew a business license
The City of Hayward requires every person, firm, corporation, partnership or other business organization conducting business within the City to obtain a business license. The forms and steps needed to apply for your business license will vary depending upon your location - either within Hayward city limits or outside of Hayward city limits. Scroll to the bottom of the page for information about how to renew or close your license, pay a balance or search our license database.
IF YOUR BUSINESS IS LOCATED WITHIN HAYWARD CITY LIMITS
You must apply for your business license in-person at City Hall because your application needs approval from the Planning Department. To save time, you may access, fill-out, and print a Business License Application before you visit City Hall. (These forms are available at City Hall if you do not have a printer.)
IF YOUR BUSINESS IS LOCATED OUTSIDE HAYWARD CITY LIMITS
You will need to complete a Business License Application, and submit it with payment to the Revenue Division. If you would like, you may submit your application via email to BusinessLicense@hayward-ca.gov. Once your application has been submitted, you will be contacted to discuss the fee due and to make your payment. The payment processor charges a convenience fee for over-the-phone payments of $2.50 or 3% (whichever is higher).
CONTRACTORS LOCATED OUTSIDE HAYWARD CITY LIMITS
If you are a contractor located outside of Hayward city limits, and need to obtain a business license to be able to obtain a permit, visit the Contractors Based Outside of Hayward City Limits informational page.
