Compost Giveaway returns Oct. 30, 2021

September 28, 2021

This fall, the Hayward Compost Giveaway is returning following a hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hayward residents may come to the former Skywest Golf Course on Oct. 30, 2021 between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. to pick up four one-cubic-foot bags of free compost.

Every year, the City gives away bags of compost to Hayward residents in partnership with Waste Management of Alameda County (WMAC). The WM EarthCare Homegrown Compost distributed to attendees is made from Bay Area yard trimmings and residential food scraps, including those from Hayward.

In order to receive compost, residents must show proof of residency and sign a waiver, on which they must list a Hayward address. Attendees are encouraged to sign their waiver, which can be downloaded here, in advance and bring it with them. A hard copy of the waiver will also be mailed to Hayward residents prior to the event. Because car windows will need to be rolled down to hand off the signed waivers, all attendees are required wear a mask.

This year’s event will be held in the parking lot of the former Skywest Golf Course at 1401 Golf Course Road in Hayward from 8:00 a.m. through 11:00 a.m. For more information, visit http://www.hayward-ca.gov/compost.
