The City of Hayward announced today that City police, code enforcement officers and Alameda County Environmental Health officials are teaming up to shut down unlicensed food vendors operating without permits in the City.
On July 29 and Aug. 5, City-County teams conducted inspections, issued citations and confiscated hundreds of pounds of food, barbecue trailers and other equipment at multiple known hot spots for illegal food vending.
During the operations, the teams also provide information to vendors about how to apply for County licenses and City permits to operate legally under food-safety regulations and ordinances intended to protect public health and safety.
The teams are scheduled be on the streets operating weekly at least through the end of August.
