Policy Innovation Workshop on Community Safety

The eight-week Policy Innovation Workshop is part of the City's Public Safety Community Outreach Project. It will take place from February - April, 2021. The Workshop will pair teams of community members and staff to collaboratively brainstorm, research, and test possible policy alternatives using the feedback that has been gathered in the summer and fall. See the roster of participants.

Sign up to be a Community Advisor: We are inviting community members to be community advisors to the workshop teams. Community advisors may be contacted by the teams to provide feedback on draft policy concepts or participate in tabletop exercises to test the feasibility of concepts and identify trouble spots. If you are interested in being a community advisor to the workshop, please fill out this interest form.

Workshop Session 1

Date: Thursday, Febraury 18, 2021, 5:30-8:30pm

Meeting Recording:

Major Topics Covered: The main topics covered in session 1 were introductions, group values exploration, and identification of the biggest challenge areas to focus on during the workshop. Participants brainstormed challenge areas using an online platform. Facilitators grouped the virtual sticky notes by themes in real time. Participants were then given six dots to select their top priorities (see image below).

The staff team then used the sticky notes to create draft Challenge Statements. Participants received a survey to rank their preferences. Staff used these ranking to create working teams for the remaining session. These Challenge Statements are drafts. Throughout the process, the working teams will refine the statements based on stakeholder engagement.
