Hayward Public Library opened its new free-standing Breastfeeding and Pumping Station at the Downtown Library with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Aug. 6.

August was National Breastfeeding Month, and the City of Hayward and Hayward Public Library are proud of their commitment to supporting families and children, and would like to stress the importance of breastfeeding in giving a healthy start to infants and improving long-term health in mothers.

The new Breastfeed and Pumping station will help provide the privacy that parents who are in the Library or in the downtown area may seek for breastfeeding or pumping, though both breastfeeding and pumping are permitted wherever parents are comfortable doing so.

The station may be reserved for use 45 minutes at a time, starting on the hour until one hour before the library closes. Reservations, though not required, may be made in person or by calling (510) 881-7990 on the day of use.

The breastfeeding station was funded by Kaiser Permanente, the Friends of Hayward Library, and the City of Hayward.
