The City of Hayward will host a community gathering and candlelight vigil the evening of Saturday, Sept. 11, to remember and honor those who died 20 years ago in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, those who lost their lives during our nation’s response, and everyone whose lives have been impacted over the past 20 years.
The 9/11—Hayward Remembers and Honors Vigil will take place at the new Heritage Plaza located across Mission Boulevard from the Hayward 9/11 Memorial and across C Street from the downtown Hayward Public Library.
Community members are invited to gather starting at 6:30 p.m. and walk the Plaza, leaving mementos and messages at any of the memorial stations that will be placed throughout the Plaza to honor those who were killed, first-responders, veterans, and friends, family and loved ones here and abroad.
The candlelight vigil will begin with a moment of silence at sundown at 7:21 p.m. in the southeast corner of the Plaza across Mission Boulevard from the Hayward 9/11 Memorial.
Battery-powered tealight candles will be provided while supplies last, and social distancing and other COVID-19 safety measures will be observed and encouraged.
