Motor Coach Industries comes to Hayward

November 14, 2017

Motor Coach Industries (MCI), a subsidiary of New Flyer and one of largest bus manufacturers and parts distributors in North America, is opening its next and seventh North American Sales and Service Center in Hayward.

The 35,000-square-foot facility at 4120 Point Eden Way, the grand opening of which is being celebrated today, will provide heavy vehicle service and parts sales to the Bay Area’s growing fleet of private buses used by the likes of Google, Facebook and others, and to the private tour industry and public transit agencies.

MCI’s new Sales and Service Center will create about 35 new positions, including specialized mechanic and technician jobs, and the company will likely join Hayward’s top 20 sales tax generators, supporting public safety, emergency and other vital municipal services.

In addition, MCI’s focus on merging luxury and eco-friendliness—with near-zero emission EPA-compliant engines—will bolsters Hayward’s standing as a leader among East Bay cities in climate protective and environmental sustainable policy and innovation.

The investment also is a win for the Hayward Economic Development team, which sprang into action with its personalized concierge approach upon learning that MCI was looking for a strategically positioned base from which to serve and supply its Bay Area customers.
