Hayward City Council places City Manager Alvarez on paid administrative leave

HAYWARD, Calif., May 20, 2025—The Hayward City Council voted unanimously in closed session Tuesday to place Hayward City Manager Ana M. Alvarez on paid administrative leave and appointed City Attorney Michael Lawson to step in temporarily as acting City Manager.

City Manager Alvarez, who joined the City on Jan. 9, 2025, will remain on paid leave pending a final decision on her status.

The action was announced publicly at the outset of the regular meeting of the City Council on Tuesday—and no further comment on the matter will be forthcoming from the City at this time.
