The City of Hayward Spring Compost Giveaway returns this Saturday, May 18, in the parking lot of the Skywest property adjacent to Hayward Executive Airport, 1401 Golf Course Road, from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Community members who didn’t attend the first Compost Giveaway event on Saturday, May 4, are welcome to join us for this second and last Giveaway this spring and receive up to four bags of locally produced compost. There is a limited supply so bags will be available while supplies last.

This event is offered to all Hayward households as part of the City’s trash collection and recycling service Franchise Agreement with Waste Management of Alameda County. The compost is made in part from food scraps and yard trimmings collected from Hayward residents.

A waiver must be signed to receive compost. The waiver form can be downloaded here and also will be available at the event. Traffic is often heavy, so please be patient and considerate and please enter the event from the south by using Skywest Drive and West A Street. Residents can carpool with neighbors.

Compost is a nutrient-rich soil amendment made from decomposed organic matter. It can improve moisture retention in soil, promote plant growth, and sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
