Human remains located and identified at construction site in Hayward

HAYWARD, Calif., On Friday, Mar. 11, 2022, at about 11:07 AM, Hayward PD officers responded to the report of what could be human remains found at a construction site near the 24000 block of Mission Blvd.

Upon arrival, officers located what appeared to be human remains that had been found near a trenching area where construction was being done for the business.

This information was not initially released to the public due to the remains’ advanced stage of decomposition and the necessity to determine if the remains were human or could be historical in nature.

In late April 2022, the remains were identified by the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau as 22-year-old, Tyree Hayden, an unhoused Hayward community member. Hayden’s next of kin were notified of his found remains and detectives were able to meet with the family on May 4, 2022.

This incident is being investigated as a homicide.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to call Detective Purnell at 510-293-7176.

This is still an active investigation and any details about the case will be released as they become available.

The Hayward PD case number is 2021-013811.
