Hayward PD Homicide Investigation Arrest/Update

HAYWARD, Calif., May 24, 2021 — The Hayward Police Department has arrested a subject believed to be responsible for two separate homicides and an attempted homicide that occurred in less than a three-week period. The suspect has been identified as 42-year-old John Regan, who also goes by the name Sean Carsetti.

On March 18, 2021, officers responded to the 22000 block of Main St for the report of a “man down.” Upon arrival, the victim, a 47-year-old Hispanic Male, was located suffering from stab wounds. Emergency medical personnel arrived and pronounced the man deceased.

On March 31, 2021, officers responded to the City of Hayward’s public parking garage near the intersection of Watkins St and B St after receiving report of a “woman down” who was seen moments prior, covered in blood yelling for help. Upon arrival, the victim, a 53-year-old Hispanic Female, was located suffering from stab wounds. Emergency medical personnel arrived on scene and pronounced the woman deceased.

On April 3, 2021, officers responded to the 1000 block of A St regarding a stabbing that had just occurred. Officers located the victim, a 53-year-old Hispanic Female, suffering from stab wounds. Emergency medical personnel arrived on scene and the victim was transported to the hospital where she was treated for her injuries. Regan was located a short distance away from the incident, was positively identified as the suspect, and was taken into custody for the stabbing.

After an extensive investigation, Regan was also identified as the suspect believed to be responsible for the stabbing deaths on March 18, 2021 and March 31, 2021. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has charged Regan in all three cases, including a revocation of parole, two counts of murder, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and other weapon related charges.

At this time, we do not believe there are any outstanding suspects or others involved in the incident.
