Construction is now underway on La Vista Park, a joint project of the City of Hayward and Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (HARD) that is bringing a new 39-acre hillside recreation area to South Hayward.

Located above Mission Boulevard at Tennyson Road at the site of the old La Vista Quarry, the new park will have 180-degree-plus views of San Francisco Bay. Features will include a ridge trail, sports fields, courts, an amphitheater, yoga lawn and much more.

The park, expected to be completed by fall 2027, is intended to be a destination for all of Hayward and beyond. It is being funded with HARD voter-approved Measure F1 bond proceeds and “in-lieu” fees paid to the City by real estate developers, including a contribution by the quarry owner, DeSilva Gates, of Dublin, builder of a 179-home subdivision adjacent to the quarry property.

A ceremonial groundbreaking to celebrate the project and progress is scheduled for 4 p.m. today.
