Hayward COVID-19 Testing Center shifting to new weekday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. schedule

April 24, 2020

HAYWARD, Calif., April 24, 2020—The City of Hayward COVID19 Testing Center is shifting to a weekday operating schedule, and will be closed all day Saturday and Sunday and reopen at 9 a.m. on Monday, the City announced today.

The schedule change is being made in response to changing levels and patterns of demand at the Center and to free up resources for mobile testing of vulnerable populations such as residents and employees of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.

The new hours of operation at the Testing Center—now located in Parking Lot A at Cal State University East Bay—are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The Center may shut down earlier on a particular day if demand warrants or the number of available tests for the day are exhausted.

Between March 23 and April 19, specifically trained Hayward Fire Department firefighter-paramedics and partner health clinicians have tested 3,758 people at the Center and other locations—with 414 of individuals found to be positive for infection with the coronavirus contagion that causes COVID-19 disease.

Testing at the Center is free and available to anyone with COVID-19 symptoms and a fever above 100 degrees.  Symptoms include cough and shortness of breath.  No referral from a medical doctor is required.

Health-care workers and first-responders may make advance appointments for testing by calling the City’s COVID-19 hotline at (510) 583-4949.
