CALL TO ARTISTS
MURAL ART PROJECTS
 
The City of Hayward’s Mural Art Program is pleased to announce two (2) new mural art projects for this fiscal year.  The Mural Art Program’s intent is to partner with local artists to foster: civic pride, cultural diversity, cultural enrichment, and community identity through inspirational artwork.
 
ELIGIBILITY:
This project is open to all experienced bay area professional artists.  Selected artists must provide proof of general liability insurance coverage.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Applicants must submit:
•Artist application (new artists only)
•Current resume highlighting past art installation projects 
•Provide one reference who can speak to the past art installation and qualifications 
•A maximum of four original art works may be submitted 
•Art work must be in color
 
NOTE: 
Clipart or photos will “not” be accepted
Draft renderings will “not” be returned
 
PROJECT: UTILITY BOXES (2)
Project funding shall include design(s), artwork, basic wall preparation, and minimum two applications of anti-graffiti coating.  
 
MURAL COMPLETION DATE:  DECEMBER 2017 (weather permitting) 
ART CONCEPT: Open 
ART INSTALLATION: TBD
FUNDING:  $1,000
PROJECT TIMELINE:
Submission deadline:  October 24th 2016
Selected Artists will be notified on or before December 7th 2016
DESIGN TEMPLATE SAMPLE
 
The utility box template converts a three-dimensional object to a one-dimension drawing layout.  This template enables artists to scale conceptual art designs within a dimensional space.  Actual utility boxes vary in size (approximately 72” H x 38” W x 35” D), shape, and have various vents, seams, doors, and handles.  Be prepared to adjust artwork to fit a unique utility box.

Hayward Police Department Seeks Mural Artist for HAYWARD ATTENDANCE PROJECT
 
PROJECT: Cesar Chavez Middle School
The goal of the Hayward Attendance Project (HAP) is to develop a plan to reduce chronic absenteeism in the Tennyson High School pattern of schools within the Hayward unified School District. We are seeking a mural which promotes the importance of school attendance coupled with the unique/diversified Hayward community as a backdrop. Consistent school attendance beginning when a child first enters school has a direct impact on whether that student will complete high school or become involved in the juvenile justice system.  
 
ART CONCEPT: Hayward Attendance Project
 
ART INSTALLATION: Cesar Chavez Middle School
 
COMPLETION DATE: FEBRUARY 2017 (weather permitting) 
 
FUNDING:  $13,000 all projects require anti-graffiti coating up to two applications
Submissions may be mailed, dropped off or emailed to no later than October 24, 2016
 
Artist will be notified via email or phone, of final selection, on or around December 7th.
