Become a Hayward Youth Commissioner

Applications are now being accepted from students interested in serving on the Hayward Youth Commission.

The City seeks students eager to represent the interests, needs and concerns of the young people in the Hayward community and to provide input to the elected officials of the City of Hayward, the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District, and the Hayward Unified School District about issues that affect youth.

Youth Commissioner responsibilities include attending meetings the first and third Monday of each month from September to June, except holidays, and working on special projects that address current issues.  To qualify, students must be between 13 and 20 years old at the time of appointment, and live in the City of Hayward or within the boundaries of the Hayward Unified School District.

All applicants under 18 years of age must a have parent/legal guardian consent to participate in this Commission by completing the Parent Agreement and Contact Information form.  Applications are available in the Office of the City Clerk, 777 B Street, Hayward, or by calling (510) 583-4400 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Applications also may be obtained by visiting the City’s website at: https://www.hayward-ca.gov/hyc or by applying online at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HYC2019

The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, May 24, 2019.  Applications postmarked prior to the deadline but received afterward will not be accepted.  Applicants will be notified by mail when an interview time is confirmed.  Interviews are one day only and are scheduled for Thursday, June 6, 2019.
