GRID Alternatives comes to Hayward

December 6, 2016

GRID Alternatives’ state-sponsored solar program is coming to Hayward neighborhoods! GRID Alternatives provides low to no-cost solar for homeowners who meet income qualifications. Through this program, homeowners save an average of 75% on their electric bill. The nonprofit receives funding from the State of California, individual donors, grants and other funding sources to do installations in targeted neighborhoods, including several neighborhoods in Hayward.

The City of Hayward Environmental Services office partnered with GRID Alternatives to organize the organization’s first canvassing event in Hayward’s Longwood neighborhood. On December 3rd, twelve volunteers representing Cal  State East Bay, CivicSpark AmeriCorps, and the City of Hayward visited approximately 200 homes to spread the word about GRID Alternatives’ state-sponsored solar program for low-income homeowners.

Through events like this, the City hopes to let residents know about this opportunity and to increase GRID Alternatives’ presence in Hayward neighborhoods.
