Rent Review Petition Process

A renter in a unit covered by the Residential Rent Stabilization Ordinance can review or challenge a rent increase, a reduction in housing services, or to see if their unit has been properly decontrolled (taken out of rent control).  Below is a description of steps required of tenants during the petition process, as well as steps landlords can take to make sure they follow the rules.

The information below is not a substitute for the ordinance or for legal advice.  Review of the actual Ordinance is strongly encouraged. The City’s Rent Review Office is available to answer any questions regarding the ordinance during normal business hours.
