After School Homework Support

Our skilled adult volunteer tutors help Hayward students complete their homework and strengthen their academic skills throughout the school year. We welcome applications from prospective volunteer tutors year-round.

Volunteer Requirements

Homework Support Center (HSC) volunteer tutors must:

• Be at least 18 years old.
• Enjoy working with students in grades K–12.
• Be available to volunteer Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays from 3:00–6:00 p.m. at the Downtown Library, 888 C Street, Hayward.
• Commit to volunteering at least one day per week for a minimum of three months.
• Be comfortable using computers and online learning resources.
• Complete all required tutor training.
• Complete a City of Hayward volunteer application and Live Scan background check at no cost to the volunteer.
• Attend an interview with the HSC Coordinator.

What Volunteers Do

Volunteer tutors provide individual and small-group support to students completing homework and strengthening their academic skills. The Homework Support Center provides computers, internet and printing access, homework supplies, academic resources, and other learning tools.

Volunteering with HSC is an opportunity to support the academic success of Hayward students while developing communication, tutoring, and interpersonal skills. We look forward to hearing from you!
