Teen Advisory Group (September - May):

Help the library better serve you while earning community service hours. Help plan teen library events, recommend books and music for the library collection, meet new friends, and more!

Teen Volunteer Saturdays

There are Teen Volunteer Saturdays at the Downtown Library from 12:30-4:30 p.m. on various Saturdays each month. Email Cheryl Penick at cheryl.penick@hayward-ca.gov for dates. 

To volunteer, fill out the student volunteer application below and return it to the Downtown Library.

Saturday volunteering is also available at Weekes Library by sign-up only. Students must sign up at the Reference Desk in advance and in person for a one-hour slot.

Please note: Library service hours can not be used for community service required by a judge or court.

Teen Volunteer Book Reviewers Program

Want to volunteer from home? Through the Teen Volunteer Book Reviewers Program, you can earn community service hours by writing reviews for books that you read!

How it works:

  • Each review counts as 1 hour of community service
  • You may submit a maximum of 10 reviews per month

You are eligible to participate if:

  • You are a teen age 13 to 18
  • You have filled out a Youth Volunteer Application & turned it in at the Hayward Library (Pick a copy up at the Library or download & print one here.

Teen Librarian Ari will keep a log of each volunteers’ hours. If you need a letter verifying your hours or have a form/log that needs to be signed, please email Ari at ariana.nussbaum@hayward-ca.gov
