Hayward Public Library Literacy Plus program, in partnership with the California State Library and Gale, part of Cengage Learning, offers adults the opportunity to earn an accredited high school diploma and career certificate online through Career Online High School.

Literacy Plus offers free English Conversation Circles to adults whose native language is not English. The goal is to ensure learners strengthen their conversational English skills and build self-esteem. Trained volunteers facilitate conversation in a casual atmosphere and focus on practical, everyday topics, as well as topics based on interests and needs. The circles are held at several locations in Hayward.

The Lawyers in the Library Program is a countywide service coordinated by the Alameda County Law Library and staffed by volunteer attorneys. Volunteers provide free consultation and referrals on a wide variety of issues including landlord tenant disputes, probate matters, employment problems, and other general consumer issues.

Hayward Public Library’s Seed Lending Library is a community seed exchange in which borrowers are able to “check out” a wide variety of vegetable and flower seeds to plant in their gardens for home use. A library card is not necessary to use the seed library.
