Hayward’s General Municipal Election scheduled for November 6, 2018

Shift from June to November for election of Hayward mayor and City Council members approved by voters in 2016

HAYWARD, Calif., March 13, 2018—For the first time since city voter approval of Measure C in June 2016, Hayward’s general municipal elections are shifting from June to November of even-numbered years.

The City of Hayward’s general municipal election will be consolidated with the General Election scheduled to be held on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018. The general municipal election will include the election of a Mayor and two members of the City Council for four-year terms and any ballot measures.

The nomination period in which candidates must file nomination documents and declaration of candidacy for the Nov. 6 municipal election opens on July 16 and closes Aug. 10. If nomination papers are not filed by the incumbent, the nomination period will be extended until Aug. 15. Incumbents are not eligible to file during the extended period.

The last day to register to vote in the Nov. 6 election is Oct. 22. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day. Vote-by-mail ballots will be issued starting Oct. 8.
