Walpert Street improvements continue with roadway pavement reconstruction
HAYWARD, Calif., Oct. 18, 2019—The next phase of Walpert Street improvements will begin Monday with a partial tree-removal project followed by roadway pavement reconstruction.
The partial tree removal project, in front of 1140 Walpert St., and roadway pavement reconstruction of the full length of Walpert between Fletcher Lane and 2nd Street will require intermittent and all-day full street closures on:
- Monday, Oct. 21, for the partial tree removal project, which requires the mobilization of a crane spanning the entire street width;
- Thursday, Oct. 24, and Friday, Oct. 25, for pavement reconstruction grinding and overlay; and
- Saturday, Oct. 26, for final pavement reconstruction grinding and overlay, if needed.
Vehicle access will be limited to local resident and business traffic during the full street closures, which are scheduled for an unspecified period of Monday, Oct. 21; from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, and Friday, Oct. 25; and an unspecified period of Saturday, Oct. 26, if needed.
The first phase of Walpert Street improvements are near completion and entailed concrete curb, gutter, sidewalk and driveway upgrades.
Walpert Street improvements are being funded through the City of Hayward’s share of Alameda County Measure B and BB transportation sales tax revenue.
During construction, street parking will be restricted and the contractor will post “No Parking” signs. Any vehicle parked on a posted street on the scheduled dates will be towed by Hayward Police Department at the owner’s expense.
