City of Hayward Announces Appointment of Maria Hurtado as Assistant City Manager

City Manager Kelly McAdoo is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Maria Hurtado as the City’s new Assistant City Manager effective November 28, 2016.  Ms. Hurtado fills the Assistant City Manager vacancy created when the City Council appointed Ms. McAdoo as City Manager in August 2016. 

Ms. Hurtado has been serving as the City of Oxnard Assistant City Manager since May of 2015. Prior to her appointment in Oxnard, Maria worked as the Assistant City Manager for the City of Tracy for over 9 years. In Tracy, she served as the Chief Operating Officer (COO), responsible for special projects and the daily operations of four operating departments, including Development Services and Economic Development, Administrative Services, Public Works and Utilities.  Ms. Hurtado held two six-month Interim City Manager appointments during her tenure as Assistant City Manager.  Maria was initially hired to the City of Tracy as the Director of Parks and Community Services before being appointed Assistant City Manager in 2007. Prior to this position, Ms. Hurtado served as Deputy Director of Parks & Neighborhood Services for the City of San Jose, CA and Assistant Director for Parks and Community Services and Assistant Director for Redevelopment and Housing for the City of Watsonville, CA.  She also had extensive experience in the non-profit sector prior to beginning her service in local government.

Ms. Hurtado serves on the Board of the International Hispanic Network (IHN) as the Vice President for Programs, is a member of Municipal Management Association of Northern California (MMANC) and International City/County Management Association (ICMA), and sits on the Cal-ICMA Preparing the Next Generation Committee (PNG). Ms. Hurtado recently served as Co-Chair of the ICMA Conference Planning Committee for the 2016 Annual Conference.  She holds a Masters in Social Work from San Jose State University and a BA in Sociology from the University of California in Santa Cruz.
