The City of Hayward has opened its annual recruitment period for applicants to serve on five City commissions—with service on these City Council-appointed bodies now open to all residents.

In November 2020, Hayward voters expanded the opportunity to serve through passage of ballot Measure OO. Measure OO amended the City Charter to eliminate wording that had restricted commission service to people registered or eligible to be registered to vote—a requirement that had the effect of making non-citizens ineligible.

The application period for appointment in 2025 to City commissions is now open until Friday, Aug. 1—with vacancies on the Clean and Green, Community Services, Library, Personnel and Planning commissions.

Meetings of each of these bodies are currently held in person at Hayward City Hall, 777 B Street, Hayward.

For more information—including a list of Council-appointed bodies, terms of current members, updated eligibility and service requirements, and an application—go to the  appointed bodies webpage  on the City of Hayward website or contact the City Clerk’s Office at  cityclerk@hayward-ca.gov  or (510) 583-4400.
