Application period for Hayward Police Department Summer Youth Academy now open
The Hayward Police Department is offering its annual Summer Youth Academy program this July.
The application period, which began Monday, May 17, runs through Wednesday, June 22, and is open to students entering the 8th through 12th grade for the 2022- 2023 school year. Classes will be held at the Downtown Hayward Library and the Hayward Executive Airport. Participants will be provided light snacks.
The Hayward Police Department’s Summer Youth Academy educational program is designed to give students a greater understanding of how the Police Department is organized and operates in Hayward. Goals include educating students in their integral roles as community members, while strengthening their relationship with the police.
The Summer Youth Academy is presented over four days, July 11-15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and covers the following topics:
- Patrol Structure/Recruitment
- Alcohol/Drug Abuse/Tobacco
- Special Victims Unit
- Forensics/Crime Scene
- Investigations
- VICE/Intelligence
- Traffic Enforcement
- Gangs & Graffiti
- SWAT/K9 Demo
- Crisis Negotiation/De-Escalation
- Bomb Squad demo
- Cyber bullying/Social Media
- Healthy dating/Domestic Violence
