Newly renovated Weekes Branch Library open to public

September 8, 2025

The Weekes Branch of the Hayward Public Library has officially reopened! The renovated library opened on Aug. 18, with improvements to the building and surrounding property.

Interior improvements include fresh paint, removal and replacement of worn and damaged carpeting, furniture and shelving, as well as a new display screen and AV equipment in the updated Community Meeting Room. Exterior improvements include fencing, landscaping and safety enhancements, fostering a tangible sense of place.

In collaboration with the Hayward Arts Council and Hayward Unified School District, Weekes Branch will have an art gallery that hosts rotating local art displays. The branch will also include a long-requested Friends of the Hayward Public Library Bookstore, which will sell gently used books to support Library programs. Visit the Weekes Branch Event Calendar here to view the upcoming schedule of events, including arts and crafts sessions, tabletop gaming, homework help, story times, Tai Chi and more.

The City of Hayward authorized the use of Community Development Block Grant funds and special revenue sources such as grants from Hayward Promise Neighborhoods, the Friends of the Hayward Library and a donation from the Donna L. & Edward E. Martins Foundation to fund these much-needed improvements at the branch.
