Arrest made in Fatal Collision that took place near Tennyson Road and Calaroga Avenue
HAYWARD, Calif., On April 4, 2025, at around 8:15 p.m., in joint efforts with Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, Hayward Police Department officers arrested the person responsible for the fatal collision resulting in the death of a 26-year-old woman on February 10, 2025, near the intersection of Tennyson Road and Calaroga Avenue.
On February 10, 2025, at 07:53 a.m., officers responded to a report of a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian near the intersection of Tennyson Road and Calaroga Avenue.
The pedestrian, 26-year-old Lydia Guerra of Hayward was found unresponsive and had sustained major injuries related to the collision. She was transported to a hospital and was later pronounced deceased.
The driver, a 36-year-old, Kelvin Leovander, non-Hayward resident, was detained on scene and later placed on a mental health hold.
Once released Leovander, was arrested and booked at Santa Rita Jail for voluntary manslaughter and felony hit and run resulting in injury or death. After being booked Leovander was released pending additional follow-up to the case.
Officers conducted a comprehensive investigation, which included collecting and analyzing evidence, conducting scene reconstruction, and vehicle dynamic evaluations. After the necessary follow up was conducted by the Hayward Police Department, a warrant was issued for Leovander’s arrest, charging him with voluntary manslaughter and felony hit and run resulting in injury or death.
Through their investigation, officers learned Leovander had left the state but was scheduled to return to Oakland on April 4th. In collaboration with Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, Leovander was arrested at Oakland Airport and Hayward Police took custody of Leovander.
Leovander was arrested and is currently in custody at Santa Rita Jail for voluntary manslaughter and felony hit and run resulting in injury or death.
