YFSB’s school-based counselors collaborate with students, parents or caregivers, teachers, and other school personnel to promote students’ full engagement in school, strengthen self-esteem and confidence, and address social, emotional, and academic needs.

Counselors provide a comprehensive range of services at assigned school sites and play an active role in enhancing school climate and fostering safe, inclusive school communities that encourage and support student success by offering:

  • Individual and group counseling services
  • Positive youth development groups
  • Student engagement
  • Support for social/emotional learning
  • Coordination of Services Team
  • Workshops for parents, students and staff
  • Basic needs case management

Currently, YFSB has a full-time counselor assigned at the following schools:

  1. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School
  2. Anthony W. Ochoa Middle School
  3. Bret Harte Middle School

Additionally, we regularly work with all middle and high schools in the Hayward Unified School District, providing site-based services when needed.

Families interested in school-based counseling services are encouraged to inquire through their child’s school via the COST (Coordination of Services Team) program. YFSB Location:
