Services for Teachers

Hayward Public Library provides a wide range of services for educators.

Class Visits and Tours: Bring your class on a field trip to the Library! Librarians provide age-appropriate tours, which can include a Storytime or specific research activity. While visits can vary in length, the approximate length is 45-60 minutes. Class visits must be scheduled a minimum of two weeks in advance to allow for appropriate staffing levels that will allow us to provide the highest level of service for your students. Call 510-881-7945 today to set up your visit.

School Visits and Trainings: Librarians can visit your classroom to discuss library events and programs, explore new books, and provide trainings on our databases, ebooks,, and other online resources. We can also provide presentations for teachers which generally last 20-30 minutes and provide an overview of the materials and services that we offer to students. During open houses, we are available to provide a booth and discuss our services with parents. To set up a visit, call 510-881-7945 (Main Library) or 510-293-5366 (Weekes Branch).

Library Cards: Current teachers may apply for a Teacher Library Card. Teacher Cards permit library materials which normally circulate for three weeks may be borrowed for six weeks for classroom use.

Contact us to learn how we can help register your students for library cards. We offer several options to ensure that every child has access to the wealth of resources we offer.
