Library Closure FAQ

The Hayward Main Library closed permanently at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 1st. We will reopen in the new 21st Century Library & Community Learning Center - date to be announced.
FAQ: Main Library Closure
 
I have items checked out – will I get fines?
No! No items will be due back until the new library has opened.
 
If I do want to return my items, can I?
Yes! Library materials can be returned to the Weekes Branch Library or in the book boxes located on Watkins Street between “C” and “D” Streets, adjacent to the Old Main Library location.
 
Are you offering any services when the Main Library is closed? 
Yes! Check our event calendar for a list of storytimes and other events happening at the Weekes Branch Library.
Downloadable e-books and audio books can be checked out to Hayward Library card holders with access to computers or portable devices with Internet access.
Visit museums and other local attractions with Discover and Go.

Please note: Books and media checked out from the Hayward Main Library or Weekes Branch Library cannot be returned to the Alameda County Library System. You will need to apply for an Alameda County Library Card to check out items from the Alameda County Library System.
