2016 Wildfire Season (Wildfire Awareness Week)

California wildfire season typically begins in the month of April and ends in the month of November.  As a part of the Hayward Fire Department’s effort to prevent wildfire in the Hayward and Fairview hill areas, they will conduct “high fire hazard surveys” starting after May 20, 2016.  Engine companies will look for high weeds and dry vegetation conditions, which are conducive to wildfire spread.

Each year, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) highlights the importance of wildfire prevention and preparedness by declaring the first full week of May as “Wildfire Awareness Week”, May 1 – 7, 2016.  Please visit their website for more information for more information and how you can be wildfire safe.
