Did you know?
The Census is a count of the entire U.S. population, which takes place every 10 years.  Data collected during the Census is used to determine how seats in the U.S. House of Representatives are apportioned among the 50 states.
You can complete the Census questionnaire online, by phone, or by mail.
Everyone living in your home, including newborn babies and young children, must be counted.
You don’t have to be a citizen or legal resident of the US to be counted.
By law, your individual responses to the Census questionnaire and the personal information you provide are kept anonymous and strictly confidential by the Census Bureau, and may not be shared with or used against you by any government agency or court.
The Census is used to determine how federal funding of health, housing, education, nutrition and transportation services is distributed across the country.  In fact, it is estimated that for each person not counted by the Census, $1,000 per year in funding is not received from the federal government, which could be supporting free lunch, and other worthwhile programs in Hayward and Alameda County.

Have more questions about why the Census is important, or how the data collected gets used? Visit the Alameda County or California Census portals for more information.
