General Questions:

Q. When will the library re-open?

A. At this time, it is unknown when we will re-open.  Even though the library is closed, you can use our new HPL to Go service to check out books and media - check the FAQ for more information. We appreciate your patience and will provide updates as soon as we have more information.

Q. Do I need to return my books or movies?

A. Items may be returned to the Downtown Hayward Library (888 C Street). Book drops at the Weekes Branch remain locked.

Q. When will my books or movie be due? Will I be charged late fees?

A. Please check your library account to find the due dates for your items. You will not be charged late fees during the closure.

Q. Can I pick up my held books or movies?

A. Yes! Use our new HPL to Go service to place holds and pick up your items.

Q. Can I renew my library card?

A. Please write to us at library@hayward-ca.gov to renew your card.

Using the Library Online:

Q. Can I get a library card online?

A. Yes! You can fill out the library card application online, and if you include your email address, we'll send you your new card number within 1 business day. As soon as you have that number, you can start using online resources. You can pick up your physical card once the library is open again.

Have a library card, but it's expired? Email library@hayward-ca.gov and we'll fix that for you.

Q. What online resources are available?

A. Using your library card you can:

  • Borrow and read e-books

  • Listen to audiobooks

  • Stream movies and TV

  • Take a class

  • Learn a language

  • ...and so much more!

Q. How do I access the online resources?

A. See all the options on our Resources page. Please note: Overdue fines and other fees will not prevent you from using the online resources!

Q. What is my PIN?

A. Try the last 4 digits of your phone number.  If that doesn't work, please e-mail us at library@hayward-ca.gov.

Thank you for your support and understanding. We are looking forward to welcoming you back through our doors when we reopen!
