Literacy Plus

Literacy Plus' philosophy is to help break the cycle of intergenerational illiteracy in the Hayward community for adults and children. The program promotes reading and writing competency, provides a computer learning lab, recruits and trains volunteer tutors, supports community outreach and obtains general and financial resources as needed.

The main goal of the Literacy Plus Program is to provide for our learners' emerging literacy needs through goal-directed, learner-centered tutoring.
In addition we:

  • Support family learning through our Families for Literacy and Early Learning for Families programs.
  • Support the learning efforts of all participants by providing the best possible training for volunteer tutors.
  • Help empower learners so they may accomplish their goals and realize their dreams.
