Downtown Ambassadors

The Ambassador Program consists of volunteers trained to provide foot patrol services in the downtown Hayward area. An Ambassador usually volunteers about 2 hours per week. Ambassadors are recognizable by their green Ambassador jackets and receive special training from the Police Department.
Business Watch

Business Watch is a crime prevention program that enlists the active participation of business owners, managers, and employees in cooperation with law enforcement to reduce crime in their work environment.

False Alarm Reduction Program

Hayward Police respond to nearly 6,500 alarms a year; these include robbery, hold-up, panic, and duress alarms. Approximately 97% are false, which impacts quick and efficient response to real emergencies. Our False Alarm Reduction Program addresses this serious issue.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.

Reserve Officer Program

The Hayward Reserve Police Bureau is a volunteer organization, whose members supplement full time paid officers.The Reserves have been in existence since the 1950’s and continue to play a critical role in the activities of the Hayward Police Department.
Hayward Police Ride Along Program

Get a first-hand look at law enforcement through the eyes of one of our officers. Members of the community may ride along with uniformed Hayward police officers while they perform their shift patrol duties.

VIPS: Volunteers in Police Services

Keeping Hayward safe is a big job and we take all the help we can get. Our "Volunteers in Police Services" program gives Hayward residents the opportunity to lend their time and expertise to a wide variety of support functions with HPD.
