Who can Adopt?
We welcome:
  • Neighborhood Families
  • Businesses and Business Organizations
  • Community and Civic Groups
  • Schools
  • Neighborhood Associations
  • Faith Based Groups
  • Individuals
Who can Adopt?
How often do volunteers clean up?
  • As needed. Minimum of four times per year.
How long is the adoption period?
  • Two years with the ability to renew.
What do volunteers do?
  • Remove litter and graffiti
  • Report weed control and blight issues
Who picks up litter after clean ups?
  • City of Hayward, Maintenance Department
Are minors allowed to participate?
  • Yes. If under 18, must have one adult for every five minors.
Who provides supplies?
  • Program will provide gloves, vests, bags. Grabbers will be loaned.
Adoption Area
  • Minimum of one block.
What if I need help?
  • Contact your Adopt-a-Block Coordinator.
When do I get a sign?
  • After your second successful clean up event.
Is the sign optional?
  • Yes, it is at your discretion.
