In order to keep the voters informed, the League of Women Voters facilitated forums on August 26, 2010, and on September 13, 2010. On August 26th, the League facilitated a forum on pros and cons of propositions that will be on the ballot on November 2, 2010. On September 13th, the League facilitated a candidate forum for County of Alameda Supervisor, District 2, and Hayward Unified School District Board Member. Below are the links to the videos.

In order to vote in the next election, you must be properly registered with Alameda County.

For the November 2, 2010  Election, voters must be registered at their current residential address no later than Monday, October 18, 2010.

Qualifications for Registering to Vote

To register to vote, you must be:

  • A U.S. citizen and a resident of California
  • Not in prison or on parole for the conviction of a felony
  • At least 18 years of age by Election Day

Voter Registration Deadline
The voter registration deadline is always 15 days before an election. However, voters who register after the 29th day before an election will not receive a sample ballot or other election information by mail.

Where to get Voter Registration Forms

Postage-paid voter registration forms are available at these locations:

  • City Halls
  • U.S. Post Offices
  • Public Libraries
  • Department of Motor Vehicles Offices
  • Alameda County Registrar of Voters

When to Re-register to Vote
In order to remain eligible to vote, you must re-register whenever you:

  • Change your residential address
  • Change your name (first, middle or last name)
  • Change your political party affiliation

Election Day – Tuesday, June 8

The City of Hayward has consolidated with the California Statewide Direct Primary Election on Tuesday, June 8, 2010.
Polls will be open on Election Day from 7AM to 8PM.

According to the Elections Code, Section 14000, a voter is allowed to take time off for voting. Please see below.

14000. (a) If a voter does not have sufficient time outside of
working hours to vote at a statewide election, the voter may, without
loss of pay, take off enough working time that, when added to the
voting time available outside of working hours, will enable the voter
to vote.
(b) No more than two hours of the time taken off for voting shall
be without loss of pay. The time off for voting shall be only at the
beginning or end of the regular working shift, whichever allows the
most free time for voting and the least time off from the regular
working shift, unless otherwise mutually agreed.
(c) If the employee on the third working day prior to the day of
election, knows or has reason to believe that time off will be
necessary to be able to vote on election day, the employee shall give
the employer at least two working days' notice that time off for
voting is desired, in accordance with this section.

The Office of the City Clerk will be assisting Alameda County voters to find voter registration status and polling locations.
